Anyone ever bought the propshaft removal tool. Which is a 9/16 socket with a built in thin extension?
I bought a 3/8 socket set pretty much just for this job.
However since getting it I find I use it almost exclusively. Perfect size for everything except the really small or really big on the Disco.

It's half way down the page.
100% to Snap-on for speed, 50% for accuracy. I ordered two, one turned up 1/2", and side by side it's a really difficult mistake to make, they are not at all similar.
Called them, all fine, except that they wanted me to return the 1/2" and expected me to pay the return postage. I had to ask before the offered up a courier bag. And of course, no apology, or worry if it was an urgent need...
On to the review -
As you can see from the pics the socket has pretty broad shoulders and you still have to get the prop shaft turned just so to get the socket fully engaged. I don't know if this is the case with the all-in-one tools, but I was hoping for something that would work on all prop shaft nuts in all positions.
On the upside, I doubt there's a chance of splitting the socket at the 1/4" end at its thinnest the wall is 5mm.

So what is the advantage of using these over a pair of 9/16 spanners?
Yep! :spudnikcurse:
Also, getting that oil seal in is a right pain, if you don't have a hoist and have to lie on your back. I found using the old seal turned around and the hub spanner sitting in the recess makes it a bit easier seating the new seal without damaging it.
Was at South Tweed Trade Tools Direct last night looking at welders [they did not have a good range], and looked for 1/4 drive sockets. Plenty of 9/16 in 3/8 drive but did not see 1/4 drive indivudually, only in sets. The 3/8 drive 9/16 sockets were from $6.50 to $7.50 each. Some deep sockets as well in 3/8 drive 9/16 size. They had 3-4 different brands in their range.
Could also try Coventry fasteners. They have individual sockets, tools, etc in the store across across the road from work at Wacol.
