P Gasket sealant?

Hi all

New p gasket and water pump arrived in the mail for the 300Tdi.

Now, which sealent do I use on the P Gasket? (it's the metal type)

Do I use the blue silicone that I used on the sump recently or do I go with a non hardening gasket sealant like Permatex that I normally use on paper gaskets?

Hi Mr Mud,

I didn't use any sealant on the 2 I've fitted. Just cleaned-up the faces thoroughly and relied on the rubberised coating of the metal gasket. The first one never leaked for about 3 years until the water pump was replaced later by others. (I believe the P gasket can be disturbed when the pump is replaced). The current one hasn't leaked a drop since it went in 2 1/2 years ago.

I used blue max sealant (lightly spread bead both sides)

Make sure you clean up properly around the stud otherwise it wont sit flush on the front of the block.

Just clean up both surfaces and fit without sealant...
