    D2 M&S Lights

Guys about 4 years ago I had issues with the M&S lights coming on, but the car still drove beautifully, and of course had L/R look at it and theystated it was acomputer error and reset the on board computer.
Just 3 weeks ago same thing. But it only happens when its cold, or rarely when hot.Select reverse, clunk drive back, put in drive and on they come.Stop, turn off, re-start and everything is fine.
I suspect this is the error again, with the motor and G/B not talking to each other.
Am I right in my assumptions

There's been a few threads on this lately.

    Check your battery condition first.

M&S lights coming on has been linked to moisture in the inhibitor switch in the transmission. I think there was a service bulletin on the issue

I regularly had the same issue with my POS/Disco II

Worst was in Cape York when no amount of restarts would fix the problem.

It was going to cost me $5k just to get it towed out to Cairns. I fixed it with a can of coke and 24 hrs of stress.

I notice that when I put the auto into a gear it did not match up with the dash display - so for example when I put my auto into drive it would not show a "D" on the dash.

So it was the xyz sensor on the side of the auto. It has several wires comming out of it and they plug into the wiring loom of the car. I opened that plug up and saw that the pins in the plug were corroded.

I put both ends of the plug into cup of coke to clean the corrosion and bingo. That was the end of my problem with that until the next problem

I had this problem. It IS the inhibitor switch which is located on the passenger side of the auto. Check your dash dislay and see if it shows ALL gear selections, mine didn't display 'N' but it can be any gear selection. The switch is a bit a bitch to change as there is bugger all room to manouver there but it can be done.
Hunt around for a second hand unit as you will need a second mortgage on your house for a newie

I think we are talking about the same sensor.

Just check the pulg a few cm's up from the wires that come out of the sensor. Thats all that was wrong with mine.

It did in the end kill my box, ecause it caused me to burn the autotrans oil and about a month later the box died. Had I know that I would have had the oil replace straight away.

When the lights came on in my case I did not notice straight away and just thought my car was sluggish because I was going up hill with a caravan on. But the trans had basically "shutdown" and so I had overheated it by forcing it to go on.

From then on in I became a Manual gearbox convert especially when towing in a hot environment
