I'm not an expert on TD5s, but personally any coolant leak on a diesel would worry me, if it got worse and let go all your coolant it could cost you $$$$$$$$$$$$ for the damage an overheated TD5 would cost to repair.
Minor coolant leak from weep hole. Not leaking when cold, minor leak when warm, no leak when hot. Very small coolant loss from tank. Suspect this has been happening for quite some time.
Is this normal? Does it warrant replacing pump?
Would appreciate comments.

dont know about td5,however any leak from the weap hole on the pump signals failing pump.i would replace sooner than later
yes i will conferm the prevous statment, that it is a failed pump, what happens is the hole is there to seperate the coolent from the bearings, after the coolent brakes throught the ruber seal it goes into the bearings and causes the bearings to rust and takes the lube form them, the hole is there to stop the bearings from rusing in the coolent it gives you a chance to see the problem imedetly, so yes it has failed and it needs to be replaced asap. i replaces mine when it is still good after about 100k because the seal is old and will go when you are in the middel of nowhere. then keep the old one that hasent yet failed for a spair in a pinch, i paid 160 for mine, (3.9 ) not sure what a desel is worth, good luck.
whoops, forgot to mention, that you can get a bottle of castrol sulubal oil for about 5 bucks, this softins the rubber seal and prevnts this from happening, this will not repair one but it keeps the seal pliabul, good value for 5 bucks and keeps the iners from rusting.![]()
Yes, change as soon as you can. $100 for a Bearmach branded pump.
Cheers.
Quite some time ago I heard the comment ' A small amount of loss through the coolant pump hole isn't a concern, and doesn't warrant repl;acement during warranty period' and was flabbergasted. If it leaks it is leaking. End of story.
As mentioned, they are cheap so do it.
Don't forget the O ring for the coolant bracket, sometimes it comes in the kit, but if not make sure you have one on hand.
If ACE equipped D2 it is about 10 minutes more, non ACE and Defender about an hours work.

The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Yes, change your water pump as soon as possible and keep a close eye on your water level until then. IMHO I would only go genuine got this item - $140 versus about $70. I once had issues with an after market TD5 water pump.
Just an aside - I noticed the other day when installing a new water pump as a PM measure in our daughters car the word STORM was in the casting mark - nice to see.

Chev is no different, but much less sensitive (or potential expense) to proper cooling failure compared with a TD5.
Re-man US imports for mine cost about $110. When the original failed (leaked) @ about 200k + km I was thinking rebuild until I found out how cheap rebuilds are. First only lasted about 10k km, second has gone over 100k.
Same rule though.............. if they leak out of the bleed hole they're stuffed.
cheers, DL
In my experience, water pump seals leak because the bearing has failed and the seal can no longer work properly. The exception is when a new seal leaks which indicates the seal or its installation is faulty.
