The holes are just below the coolant outlet fitting and IIRC are visible before removing the head.

I have been wondering the exact same thing as I will be doing mine in the very neat future. Will replace the dowels with steel ones and have a look at the condition of the valves as well as fix other things while I'm there.

Yes, lots of fun will soon be had.
I read somewhere the complete kit with dowels, gaskets and bolts at $296.
Can anyone tell me where this is from?

I havnt come near this yet with prices around $388 inc GST. This included dowels, inlet, exhaust, fuel reg, rocker and head gaskets, injector o-rings copper washers and bolts. This seems pretty good to me comparing against the same sort of top kits for any other vehicle.

    Cheers

The 296$ quote seems very low. Even $388 seems low.

Here are the prices from LR , from about 12 months ago (all +gst) - I got a fair discount on the head bolts by asking, but cant remember if the price below was before or after - think it may have been after:

I wouldn't be skimping fitting non genuine parts, especially not the head bolts, or head gasket itself.

    Head bolts ERR5384 12x$26.37

    Steel dowels YLL500040 2x$1.81ea

    Head gasket (thickest) LVB000260 - $155

    Injector copper washers 5x$5.73 each

    Injector o'rings ERR7004 5 x$12.35 (Stupid price - probably about 10c each from a seal place)

    Fuel block gasket MSX000010 $6.21

Exhaust and inlet manifold gakets $45.25 and $42.05 LKG100470 and LKJ000010 (cant recall which is which)

Also worth doing exhaust manifold studs TE108051L 10x$3.84 each

nuts to suit ESR2033 10X$1.70 each

There is a small hose under the exhasut manifold too. PBH101980 $16.01

    thermostat PEM100990K $52.11

Yep, They were very helpful and much better than LR but Rovacraft came in nearly $100 less for the same kit.
TRS have come up with the best so far and are boasting a superior kit. Though I think the superior bit might just come down to steel dowels as opposed to plastic.

Everyone seems to be offering the same kit, I thought some may vary with bolts but all are the same bolt price give or take $5, It will come down to freight to Alice I think.
