    Question How to fit a Tru Trac Salisbury diff lock

    Well after more than two years I have finally bit the bullet and bought a Tru Trac diff lock for the rear Salisbury of my 110 from Keith at Rovertracks.

    This was prompted partly by having this on my wish list for so long and wanting more traction but as the $AU to the $US is so good at the moment it makes it that much easier to get it past the financial controller.

    Just wondering though if fitting a Tru Trac can be done by someone with reasonable mechanical skills?

    I have not worked on diffs before but remember reading that the Tru Trac / Detroit SofLocker simply drop in replacing the existing centre using the old crown wheel so there is no change to preload on pinion etc. Is this correct?

    If anyone has the instructions for fitting a Tru Track that would be great. It won't arrive for another 2-3weeks so I could read ahead and know what I am in for.

    There are a few threads on here which go through fitting an ARB or detroit step by step to a sals. Fitting a TT is an almost identical process.

    Sorry to break it to you but you will need to check/adjust the shims under the bearings in order to get the pattern correct.

    you wont need to shift the pinion you will need to adjust the crown wheel position.

    half the battles won and someone who would consider them selves competent at the 4/5 spanners difficulty level would have no problems doing it. at 3/5 you would be doing some head scratching, take twice as long look up twice as many websites and books but still get there in the end.

    Just so you don't feel too unhappy about fitting a TT - the drop in version you heard about is more for us Disco owners with the ordinary rover diffs front and rear. Just read up on adjusting a sals diff and you'll be OK. I did both of mine (Disco) in a carpark in about 4 or 5 hrs, and they are still quiet and going strong today.
