It all depends on front diff backlash compared to centre diff lock backlash.
If you've got more in the centredifflock than front diff, then it'll feel worse. If you've got less it'll feel better.

I had the front prop. shaft out for almost a year.
As said, CDL in and all should fine.
As also said, the handling is different and there are a few clunks now and then. No huge dramas though.
The only real problem I had was getting bogged on a customer's front lawn. Just a wet lawn and the old girl sunk-in like a stone. Bloody embarrassing actually. So I guess you could say 4WD capabilities are compromised somewhat.
Are the splines on a disco front drive shaft deliberately misaligned as I think they were on old range rovers to avoid vibration? I note that you mention that you have separated the splines. I do seem to recall that some drive shafts don't align with the alignment marks in line...... If that makes sense. But you might want to check that.
Well, small update, the prop shaft is getting two new uj's (heavy duty hardy spicer units) and they are being fitted by my local landie mech (who already owns half my house....:(, from the amount of work that they have previously had to do). I'll be re-installing it either this arvo or when I get back.
Thanks for all your help.
Cheers
