We have a beach close to Adelaide (Goolwa/Murray mouth) when you drive down via sandhills and it is pretty wide.

I go there quite a bit, but never get it in the wet sand. It gets sand underneath, but because it's dry, I have never bothered rinsing it down after these trips.

Do you reckon I should still be rinsing it off, even if I keep out of the wet stuff? We mainly take the new Puma, so I don't want to end up with it rusting of course.....

    Thanks
    David

Beach sand has sea salt in it....whether it is wet or dry.......dry sand packs up under your vehicle......rain comes....water sprays up.....sand gets wet......salt gets wet........things start to rust....so to answer your question....YES...your vehicle should get a through wash down after each beach excusion....then park it over the lawn sprinkler.....some beaches have a vehicle wash down area like a car wash where water is sprayed up undet the vehicle

Living at Stockton Beach for the last 25yrs, sand & salt is a constant foe. I work in the irrigation industry. I made up a small 1m long 1/2" pipe peice. Fitted a 1" click-on tap nut to one end with a 1" x 1/2" bush, a 90deg 1/2" m&f elbow at the other end, a shrub adapter screwed onto the m&f elbow, and a 15' radius high volume full circle fan spray nozzle fitted to the shrub adapter (like gets fitted to a small pop-up sprinkler). It hangs next to the hose reel in the driveway.

Makes it real easy to reach under all of the vehicle, wheel arches and all the underbody area for washdown everytime we come off the beach. Quick & simple and washes out far more sand than one can easily get at with just a garden hose & nozzle.

About $15-$18 at any good irrigation store.

We used to run a panel shop. Underbody protection like Tectyl is a good idea, and it works! ... but washing down after each beach trip is just as important!

    Kev..

Would you mind popping over to help me get the overspray off then?

We sent it back, and they removed some of it.. but there is still plenty to practise on

well.. if you give it back once and they half fix it, should I waste another few hours giving it back again and having a huge fight? Will I get another half fix? Will they do more damage? They oversprayed the headlight surrounds so they look ever so slightly white. The bullbar is speckled even after they "fixed" it. Then there was the dodgy fitting of the roof interior back in, bent brackets around the rear door, buggered rear door strut...

The Bump Shop are a pack of cowboys, IMHO. This is not uncommon though. I'm extremely fussy and most panel shops put out second rate jobs - but most people can't pick them. I know there are cost constraints and it is a real art form. However, if you're a panel shop, you really should be able to manage overspray.
