    P76 4.4 V8 Thermostat housing studs

    Hi

    I was putting the radiator, thermostat and new cap on the 110 today but struck a blow when the studs for the thermostat housing stripped.

    So the question is how should I remove them?

    Ahh bugger... Well with what little experience I have had with alloy and steal they do seem to get fond of each other
    You can try a centre punch, drill, cats ****, some very light heat and easy out but I'm not hope full. Don't snap the easy out as you will be able to drill it out and re tap even if a bit oversize in the worst case.

    What is stripped? Threads on bolts/studs or threads in block, or heads on bolts/nuts?

    The threads on the studs where the nuts screw onto...

    I the studs are stripped and so I cant put two nuts locked together to unscrew the studs. I was think I could weld the nuts onto the studs and then screw them out and replace...

    I dont think this will be a simple job like I first thought it would be.

    Seeing the stud is still there, I would think a good new pair of over centres with nice sharp teeth would do it.

    Disregard my previous post. For some reason I was thinking they had snapped off? Some heat etc and as mentioned before a stud extractor should do it.

    quite a few versions of them out there..stud extractors, Cars, Bikes, Boats, Home, stud remover items at low prices on eBay.com.au

    They've had it anyway, you can't destroy them any more ... the heat from welding will help free them up too .... Just do that.
