Thread: Does hi temp paint on Td5 exhaust manifold, help with the warping issues?

I don't think high temp paint will do much other than improve the asthetics. There are other products like ceramic coatings if appliied to the inside of the manifold will help insulate the hot gases from the metal therefore reducing the temperature transfer through the manifold. I think this might help with the warpping as well as the better use of energy through the turbo and lower under bonnet temperatures.

Thanks for that. I was just wondering because i have read somewhere that the paint does reduce the heat by up to 30%...but then I don't know how true that is.

What I did was have the old studs drilled out and and M10 studs put in, I also ground out the webbing between the ports to stop the warping of the manifold, almost 2yrs now without any broken studs.

Another option is this idea that Discowhite has just done.

the manifold was slightly warped, 2.5mm lower on the last 2 ports. idea #1.. lets cut the webbing to see if that would bring the warp back. it did! it came back to under 1mm and that was just splitting the webs with a grinder.

You need to remove all the webbing metal with a die grinder or take it to a machine shop and get them to mill it all
out.
At the same time, they can mod for the larger studs and then do a final face on it to true it up again.
The removal of the webbing allows for a little more movement at temperature at each port face rather than across the whole face resulting in cracking ad they do now.
Paint will make no difference, who ever told you that has no idea.
With the fibre wraps, these are only to protect the engine bay against heat.
You really only need to do the webbing and stud mod and you should never have a problem again.

Thats the paint I was looking for, finally. It looks like good stuff, I just wonder how long it would stay on there for before it eventually burns off too.
I think I will mill out the webbing for now and apply the paint, just to make it look schmick.

ive run the stuff on zoomie headders for drag cars and on hot street cars and i can say the oldest set of headders are now at 10years and still look like new.

Isnt that a ceramic based coating and not an autobarn $10 spray can, cheap spray will make it look purty but a proper heat proof coating will help reduce heat, there is also the jet hot ceramic coating available.
