    Indicator problems - Rangie Classic

    Hey All

The rangie has developed a problem with the indicators. When I put the key in an turn the ignition there is a rapid and intermittent ticking coming from the steering column or from under the dash. It ceased when using the indicators, but then sometime stops and the indicators themselves stop working also.

I am thinking it might be a faulty indicator switch or something, but why would it tick crazily when you start the ignition?

    Any ideas?

Now being the owner of an 89 RRC - I can say that there are a few relays mounted under the steering column, and given that the indicators are affected, that there is a power problem somewhere there. I'd suggest dropping the front cover and trying to duplicate the 'ticking' and identify the relay doing it by touch/vibration. Then you can at least swap the relay with another to see if it's the relay or the circuit. (My money is on a slightly dud relay). If it's the circuit- well, the only thing you can do is dig out the manual and check the connections. Since it's not blowing fuses, it could be a loose connection somewhere.

They are prone to burn out so i'd have a quick check of the wiring condition while under the cover.

Yes I agree with Luke, when the flasher unit plays up it can start doing all sorts of weird things.
That is most likely your culprit, very easy fix.
Sometimes a blown indicator light bulb can cause weird things too, maybe check those first.
    Good luck!
    Cheers, Pete.

Thanks Pete, I checked the bulbs first. I will now check the flasher unit. Indicators seems to be working now though...thats Lucas electrics for you! lol
