    TD5 oil filter

hi there, just finished doing the service on my disco and we all know that the oil filter can be a PITA to change, I tried this and it worked after trying to get it undone by hand.

I wrapped some thick twin flex speaker cable twice around filter and keeping tension on both ends of cable pulled one end harder to spin the filter off, it worked so am happy.
disco seriesII mods so far:-bullbar,hyd winch,
detriot locker, lsd front,C.D.L kit, chipped and bigger intercooler,2" lift, rock sliders, lsd in transfer case, modified auto trans.

Beware the TD5 spin on filter being too loose, they have been known to start leaking.

Here's another trick that I got from my LR mechanic mate. Take a long flat head screw driver and a hammer and gently tap the filter on or just below the filter, it comes off very easily that way, it doesn't really matter if you dent the filter as you will be chucking it anyway. When doing it up, do it up as tightly as possible by hand and just give it a light tap on the rim, this time being careful not to damage the filter.

oil filter pliers are the go!

After trying several oil filter wrenches and techniques with varying degrees of success, I purchased a set of oil filter pliers and they work fantastic both taking off and that last bit of nip up after hand tightnening.
