Thread: D2 power thief revealed????

Mate has a camper bus, one of those 15 seat converter jobbies. Well for 2 years his start battery has been going flat (huge battery, nearly small dozer size) often over night. 3 autolecies and 2 years later I start looking. Battery load tested fine, clean all terminals as it sounded a bit sluggish turning over. I sugested that he pull the starter and have it service just to check. Well it turns out that the brush holder inside the endcap was shorting. Dont know how but since the starter was serviced there has been no more flat batterys, auto lecie sugusted that it may have been tracking across the arc burns. Just a thought for yours

Will look into that,seems alternator is snafoo at the moment.

There is a thread somewhere on AULRO about stray signals from wireless internet connections or somesuch similar source causing the problem you describe. The problem is caused by the security system thinking it is about to be de-activated - it then remains in standby mode flatening the battery in short order

I dont lock my D2 unless its parked down the back shed or out on the street.
Is it possible that the security system stays awake because of this???
We do have wireless internet so perhaps its possible.Anybody else heard of this,I cant recall reading a post on AULRO about it.

IIRC it was wireless energy monitors.....

Can you unplug the alternator and see what happens overnight as compared with leaving it plugged in?
Could be a faulty diode perhap?

Is it possible to track this sort of problem down by putting a multimeter set to amps between the battery terminal and the earth lead, then pulling each fuse in turn to see which circuit is drawing the power?
