    Question Fuel line problem, HELP

Hi, out of hospital, everthing OK so back on forum now.
My question; 1982 Izuzu 3.9 litre diesel. LR stops on winding road where there is no room to pull over, or more usually somewhere a bit better, No fuel to motor and will not prime, so go to mid mounted fuel filter and release drain screw a bit. Get sucking sound and then gurgling and then we can reprime the motor. Any idea what this fuel line problem is. My son has broken down in the middle of road on a dangerous curve with ths problem which happened every day for over a week. So any ideas of what the problem is, would be appreciated.

Check that the fuel tank is venting, sounds like a vacuum in the tank. Next time it stops remove the fuel cap, then see if it will prime.

The fuel pickup in the tank on mine had a mesh filter that blocked with sediment once. This was after the vehicle had sat for a while.

To find it, I drained the tank to below the level of the pickup on the side and then removed the pickup by rotating the locking collar. The filter was over the end of the pickup tube.

Mine did this also. Best thing to do is remove the fine mesh sock from over the pickup and let it all go to the filters. True to Murphys law it would always cut out at the most inconvenient time like on a hill or bend. As Dave said it is also worth checking the gauze strainer in the pickup line under the dome nut on the primary fuel pump (beside the hand pump) as they are notorious for blocking........Brian

...which looks impossible to get at, but it is actually possible - a lot more difficulty to get back together again, although again, it is possible.

All of the above are possible problems.
