    2 1/4 liners

I have had these cylinder liners stashed away thinking they were 2 litre diesel liners. However opening the box and looking at the best label it says 2 1/4 and Landrover. They measure 3.536".
I was under the impression the 2.1/4 did not have liners, so what are these?

2.25s have no liners and a bore of 3.56" So if they are 3.53" OD then they must be 2L liners.

rebuild liners for a 2.25 dry press in top hat style. ( assuming the size is the ID)

the jurys out as to them being any good for a long term rebuild...

Id rate them for a petrol but Im not so sure on the diesel.

As Dave says - use to sleeve the block when the bore is worn bigger than you can get pistons for (or for damaged bores). Bore out to be a press fit for the outside then rebore the inside in place.

    sleeves for a 2 1/4 litre block

At least there is plenty of metal in the block casting . I recently rebuilt a S3 two and a quarter for a friend and sonic tested the thickness of the bore metal ; I did the usual measurement of 4 readings at 90deg - each bore was 5 mm plus.

thats part of the reason why those engines dont mind a bit of overheating and stand up well to abuse.
