    Another way from underneath
Use an extension out of a socket set against the cap, then lever off the steering box onto the extension with a tyre lever, pushing the cap in.
    Anything is worth a go,

I tried that and all it did was slip.
But, I ended up putting the cap with O ring into the deep freezer for about an hour. Success !, well almost. It went in a beauty, but I couldn't get the circlip back on in time, and when it warmed up I couldn't get another go. So into the freezer again overnight to have another go tomorrow.

With the hour and hours spent on this blooooody cap!, It would have been quicker for me to pull the timing cover off and did the job on the bench

At least my mate didn't displease the LR gods

My good mate Tony called around to assist early Sunday morning to have a go, then went home after a few choice words and then came back 3/4 hr later with a tool he made.(He's a bit of a thinker and DYIer ) A flat bit of steel with some foam padding To assist in non slip (This was to lever off the steering box) a bolt and a cylinder "slidey thinga a jig" that fitted over the bolt.

He fed the circlip onto the' thing a jiggy' and levered the plug into the pump body and the circlip followed suit and it installed. Took all of a couple of seconds.
Cost me a cuppa after that.
