    D1 300tdi auto - kickdown adjustment ???

I have searched threads but some are a bit vauge in relation to adjustment of kickdown. I have adjusted cable to about 1.0 mm between crimp and end of cable. My query is this. The arm on the pump has 4 holes numbered 1 to 4. 1 being the furtherest from the pump shaft and 4 closest. Cable is currently set on 4 but wear marks on the plate lead me to believe that it has been moved can someone provide me with the correct placement or alternativley a group average. Thanks in advance BAz

Mine was placed on the first hole and i was told to put it in the third hole. when it was in the first it was running shocking and as i moved it to the third it was running great. have a chat to JC as he is "THE MAN" who told me to put it there. he is a LR mechanic.

    cheers simon

The inner hole will give you earlier changes and softer. As you move out you get more movement in the cable for a given throttle position, and therefore your shifts will be higher and harder (more positive).

Pretty sure mine is in the first hole.

Third hole is the standard placement.

Sorry - in hindsight I didn't make that very clear.
Mine is in the inner hole (#4 as you described).

I'm currently running at position 1 (furthest from the pump).

General driving with smooth acceleration it holds gears to 3000rpm then shifts, especially in first and second.

Will also hold each gear for quite a while at any speed before changing.

The auto is quick to shift down if you give it a bit (but not to the kickdown point).

Yep it does shift sharply at position 1, a very positive shift!
Bit like a wheel chirp in a powerful rear wheel drive car.

I find position 1 is the best for spirited driving.
It excels when you accelerate hard, shifting instantly up through the gears.

Try each position and see how the box and engine responds.
Which position you use very much depends on your driving style.
Position 1 in particular does take some time to get used to, especially so you don't get driveline clunks.
