Stereo Wiring
After hearing a mates stereo on our recent fraser trip that had a subwoofer, i realised it was well worth having a sub in the car for the extra quality. I had a sub and amp in the shed from when i had my old car (bmw) and i was going to sell it because i didnt think i'd ever use it again but today i decided to put it in the back of the landy and make it easy to remove so i can have the room for when i go away.
So i went down to wow to buy some wiring and i bought a 600w kit for $40 (because im a tighty) and the bloke there said that it would run the stereo fine (because i have a 850w mono block amp with a 1200w sub) but it might heat up a bit and wont be able to be cranked at full bass for a long period of time, which i didnt mind because i just want it for quality rather than "sik beats".
So i spent all afternoon putting it all in, pulling up carpet and parts of the dash and just all round painfullness, and then when i go to try it all out before i put all the trim back together.... it doesnt work. I am running the power off my second deep cycle battery which i have in the rear and i have earthed it to a seat point because i have the amp under the passenger seat, i seem to have everything plugged in but i just can't find out whats going wrong! and its incredibly frustrating!!
So i've brought it down to two options... the wiring is too crap to run it all or the amp might be buggered... it's been in the shed for about a year or two now... not sure whether that would effect it...
Any idea's?

time to grab the multimeter/ test light and make sure u are getting power to the amp and power to the "remote" on the amp. are there lights on the amp?? do they light up? can you jump the 12v power to the "remote" for the amp and see if this powers it?
Try these and then maybe look at faulty amp.. maybe pull it out and wire it up to diff battery to make sure it does power up

Found out the problem today when i was driving with the radio on, the remote line that i wired it up to was a remote line for a automatic electric aerial, so it is only giving power when the radio is turned on, not on cd mode, so i'm hoping maybe there is an option on the head unit to turn the power on in all modes because there are no other cords in the back of the head unit for it to go into
Thanks,
Shamo

I don't know what model you have and LR audio wiring standards a bit over the shop but you should have a amp control wire in the audio harness connected to your head unit wiring plugs. Those amp harness wires tended to be purple or blue with a yellow stripe in the or if not one of those find the correct one with a multi. If nothing simply connect your amp control wire via a fuse to anything running of accessories switching however that is not ideal as head unit and amp will power up at the same time causing a thump.
