Misfiring in cold

Thank you Panya for your point of view.

In fact I'm thinking about it but in the other hand I have some leaks from the front of the engine like camshaft cover gasket, camshaft and crankshaft oil seals and maybe others...each one of these zones are dirty with fresh and dry layers of oil. I've not excess of smoke and I've not any other problems on my Td5 but this engine have passed the 300.000km mark...don't you guys think i should do an "entire" overhaul to it in orther to do another 300 with more confidence avoiding beeing expecting any problem at any moment? Or should I just replace the injector wiring and "whait" for future issues?

As I told on my first post, I don't have any engine and gearbox experience but I do have on the all rest of my 90 mechanic. I'll make a general overhaul to it on the begginig of next year and I'd like to be 100% confident about my car wich means that i should do the cylinder head overhaul... But if i have more opinions acording to Panya point of view i'll think a little more...;)

no, the misfiring wont be because of your injectors, Alien D2 has linked you to a good thread on the process and has all the tips Id give.

If you havent cleaned the oil from the main body harness and the ECU itself I would suspect that the oil there is causing your issues rather than a fault down at the injectors.

checking the injector orings can be done none invasively.

first off check the oil for diesel content if its got lots of diesel in it or the level is rising then one of the top sealing orings is leaking to identify which one use a dipstick sucker to pull about 500ml of oil out of the sump into a clean bottle and the with the rocker cover off and the engine running pour this oil over the injector bodies the oil that washes away the fastest from the injector/head joint is the one that is leaking, if its really bad you may even notice the flow of diesel.

to check the combustion sealing rings simply fill the tank to the very brim of the filler neck so that the breather port in the neck is under diesel and start the engine, combsution blowby will usually turn up as bubbles in the tank.

So you think i shoudn't open the engine at this stage if it passes that tests? And the oil leakings? I know that's normal leaking some oil but if you advise me to let it go or just keep an eye on it I'll reconsider my point of view...

I have a td5 with a pain of a misfire when cold, cold weather as well. hot day seems good as gold. I have done the the harness, checked injector balance, no diesel in oil, head was replaced because of this earlier. I keep coming to air or fuel temperature. I did the ambient temp sensor. I unplugged it first which I thought had cured the problem as it ran nicely but all it did was apparently send the whole system into a default mode. When I put in the new sensor it was back to its old tricks. So am on the sensor path just don't want to throw too much money at finding out which.Temp is still the defining characteristic.

interested to see was cures it.

open the bonnet
remove the acoustic covering
unplug the injector harness-body harness plug which is at the front right (viewed from the drivers seat) of the engine on the underside of the head.
remove the rocker cover
remove the reatiners for the injector harness and plugs
push the socket up through the bottom of the head and lift the harness free.

installation of the new harness is those steps reversed swapping the words remove with replace and undo with do up


its that simple and takes all of 20 minutes or so.


its also reccomended to clean the body harness, theres numerous methods suggested on how you go about doing that.

i keep hearing about replacing the injector harness, dose this mean cleaning it with alcohal or actualy replacing the loom with a brand new one ? where dose one buy a new loom ? are they dear ? thanks mate.

My brothers Disco has approx. the same milage and has the same problem

Does anyone know how the glow circuit works on a TD5? I was learning the other day about pre glow and after glow on the newer diesels. What are the chances the after glow may be at fault as well?
