    Sump removal and clean

Im going to me removing the sump when i drop the oil and redo it's gasket, i have several questions, is there a filter or such which i should replace whilst im down there, and are the sealant gaskets the go? and are they easy, because my previous use of sealnts silicone and otherwise may imply my caulking gun skills leave some to be desired

Their is no filter inside except the oil pick up screen. Make sure it is free of Debris.
I have used Permatex RTV Blue and Grey and Black all with leak free results in the past. Make sure the sump lips and engine block are squeaky clean, apply a thin even bead of RTV on the sump lip faces including going around the bolt holes. Refit the Sump. tighten the bolts If you can leave it overnight to set before you refill , all the better.
