    ZF into 81RRC

Managed to pick up a cheap ZF which I am looking at putting into my 81RRC which I am doing a ground up rebuild on. Vehicle is a 3.5 carby with a BW35.

How big a job is it ?

I know I am going to need a LT230 plus different holes in the transmission tunnel, different mounting holes in the chassis, and maybe transbrake mods and flex plate from a later model.

Has anyone done this to their RRC that can give some advice.

Easy job John, especially with the correct donor parts, crank adapter and flex plate etc etc BUT the only annoyance is the floor is too low in a 2 door to mount the shifter, it will need a 'box' to raise it up,( OR a 3" body lift) to miss the trans body.
The downshift cable attachements on the carb links for the BW35 MAY be just the right orientation, but this will be apparent when all is hooked up.
also be a good time to toss that square crossmember and fit the late RRC and D1 round one, some EFI manifolds and exhaust system....

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

I put a zf into my 80 RR It origionally had the 3 speed Borg Warner conversion. It was a few years ago. as I remember, it was pretty much a straight bolt up swap and a huge improvement

The centre floor section from a 5 speed Rangie does the job, it has the alloy box on top. sing out if you need one.

Thanks for the info guys, sounds like it shouldnt be too hard once I source a couple of extra bits.

Just got to get the box checked out by an auto tech to check its not an absolute basket case.

It was very cheap but the guy reckoned that it had been fine before it was removed. He is into Rover cars and just wanted the motor for one of his projects so wasnt interested in the tranny.

$31 actually. Wasnt mentioned in the ad that it was a ZF, just from a 85-86 Rangie, maybe some potential buyers assumed it was a torqueflite and didnt look at the photo so didnt bid.
Just have to wait to get a specialist to give a diagnosis so I will know whether to go ahead or not.

Rangie parts dont seem to be getting a lot of money lately. Just saw that Travs Dunga went for $512 on ebay, if I had the room for it I might have tried to snaffle it.
