    Engine Oil Additives

    Gday

Just about to service the Landy.

I went into Super Cheap today to get some diesel conditioner, and next to it on the shelf was an engine oil conditioner.

It claimed to reduce tappet noise, decrease wear blah blah blah

I'm just wondering what are peoples (preferably with experience) thoughts on this kind of thing?

I keep thinking well thats what a decent engine oil is for, but then what sort of additives do these additives have in them?

    Thanks

Rick 130 will be the best to give you a chemists/ industry explanation, but AFAIAC stay away from additives as you are correct about engine oils having adequate protection etc and the extra additives are basically useless, a bit like a Hiclone

I use Valvoline XLD oil in the 350 boat anchor that has done about 400,000 k's.

Couple of the valve stem seals are shot so I use an additive that seems to work really well, needs about a litre every 5,000 k's.

    It's called Valvoline XLD.

    cheers, DL
