    Discovery Series 1 1998 V8 Alarm no horn(1) problems

    Hi All,
    I'm a long-time reader and gleaner of knowledge from AULRO - luckily all of my problems thus far have been able to be resolved with some serious searching time and some other unlucky D1 owner's previous problem. Thankyous are few and far between on the web but the quality of information on here is pretty awesome. So thanks to all of you who share your vast experience with us!

    I've got a D1 98 V8 on dual fuel and have noticed now that there appears to be an issue with the alarm. When I first bought the D1 it would operate properly and sound the horn when the alarm went off. I've noticed now that when the alarm does go off, the indicators will flash, but no horn... just silence. The immobilising side is working, the motion sensor works, the door pin switches work, but no horn.

    The horn functions normally in normal watch-out driving operation though.

    This is particularly a concern now as I'm living in (what I consider) a relatively dodgy area (to the point that nothing is left in the Disco and the centre console and glovebox left open) and will be for the next 6 months at least.

    I haven't found anyone on the web with similar problems, and the fuses I pulled out looked (visually) OK - has anyone come across this problem before and have any advice?

    Welcome to the site!

    The alarm horn isn't the vehicles horn.

    The 'sounder' is located on the inner guard, engine compartment, drivers side near the fuse box. It is very likely that is either faulty or the wire's have been pulled off accidentally.

    They are just a cheap aftermarket 2 wire horn so inexpensive to replace.

    Thanks JC - excellent news and just the sort I was hoping for.
    It will have to survive as-is till the morning before I investigate further.
    From memory this is the basic-looking round horn on a 'Z'-bracket? I assume that there isn't any battery backup in this model(?) If so, it sounds like a good excuse to upgrade to a battery backup alarm siren if that's possible.

    Thats the one. No battery back up . I have disconnected them in the past when testing Alarms as I can't stand the noise

    Easy way to test horn is across battery.

    Just confirming all good now.
    Tested the alarm horn across the main battery and got a sickish sounding click-buzz sound. Bought another generic-style horn from Supercheap of slightly smaller physical size and now working OK. Also 20% off today at SCA which made it sweeter!
