Some engines have a support bracket for the oil pick up. Have you looked there?
Dave.
Had the sump off the Defender today checking the Oil pump bolt and all was well BUT any ideas where the M6 x 25 bolt that I found in the sump may have come from???Nothing obvious missing from underneath, maybe its a spare?

Wonder if it's been there from new?
If the sumps still off have look between the timing chain for the lubrication jet and bolt.
The bolt head is below the jet outlet and around 60mm above the top of the bottom gear.
Also check the lower "brace"/stiffener plate to block bolts are all there.
Well I will tell you a funny story. I was in the Land Rover factory watching a range rover sport being built. The worker had just put the front and rear suspension on to the car and he was waiting for the next vehicle when a bolt fell out of the car onto the ground, he looked to the left and to the right and then threw it into the bin. So you say you found a bolt in your sump, I am really not surprised

True Story. About 1960 a friend bought a new Morris Elite. In the boot was a square lump about 6" x 6" x 1" under the sound deadener and blue paint. At first service he asked the service dept. what it was as it was not shown in either the owner's handbook or sales literature. Dealer's staff had a look at others and were mystified. Eventually someone scraped off some paint and sound deadener to find a jam sandwich.
