Thread: My Dual Battery install with Traxide SC80

Previously I posted a question on which dual battery controller to use. Lots of people recommended Traxides controllers. Tim was helpful and provided me with an SC80.
He are some picks of my install.

First decision I had to make is where to install the controller that allows protection of the wiring and the shortest distance to my Aux battery.
I decided to fit my second battery at the passenger side in front of the air cleaner as this had a ready made battery tray just like the drivers side.
The Jack was moved and the coil relocated. to in front of the washer bottle.
Now I had a space for the Marine battery I was going to use as the Aux power source.

I decided to fit the SC80 behind the drivers side head light. It would be out of the way and should keep dry there.

I used 10mm cable and covered the cable with conveluted tubing and shrink wrapped the ends of the lugs then again on the ends of the tubing to hold it in place. The Main battery Pos to the SC80 was fed through a hole I drilled and a rubber grommet. The cable was also wrapped in conveluted tubing.

Above pic shows the POS + 10mm cable coming from the + terminal this then feeds beside the radiator through to the grommet seen earlier and fed to the head ligh cavity.
The Pos+ from the SC80 (grey/Purple) via the 50 AMP circuit breaker is then feed up behind the top of the radiator along with the Main Battery 's Neg- to Aux Battery Neg-) The POS+ is enclosed in conveluted tubing and then a few strips of shrink wrap tube binds them together. These are then zip tied to other cables behind the radiator top panel out of harms way.
At the exit point near the Aux battery, I have covered the radiator mount ridge with a scrap of pinchweld, (not in pic) to protect the exiting cables from rubbing.

Next pic shows the Aux battery fitted and cables attached. All lugs are finished with 2 layers of shrink wrap and the POS + cable ends of the conveluted tubing also have shrink wrap to prevent them exposing the cable ends.

Pic of fitted Aux battery, due to battery size the power steering reservior did not require moving, just a small bend on the bracket.


Then Twin sheathed B/S wire was used for the power supply to the rear of the Disco via a 30amp Circuit Breaker.
(Again I still have to fit a cover over the C/
The Pos+ lead again covered in Conveluted tube and the lugs and tubing ends are shrink wrapped.

I fed the B/S power cable through a rubber grommet under the washer bottle and fed it into the passenger side behind the glove box, then down to the lower passenger foot kick panel.
The plastic sill trims lifted allowed the cables to sit nicely between the carpet edge and the sill trim, once at the rear passenger side wheel arch the cable was fed under the carpet and behind the cargo are left panels.
Primarily the 1st plug was to power a fridge.
A merrit plug was chosen
It is mounted in the left rear most corner.

The reason for this is it is out of harms way and later you'll see another reason why it's there.

The merrit plug is fused, next pick shows the termination of the B/S cable inside the left hand rear tail light compartment. An inline fuse is fitted.
Additional sockets can be fitted at later time by additional connectors



Now the reason the merrit plug was fitted in it's chosen location


Gravity will stop it falling out, it can't be knocked out accidently.
A quick look through the windows when leaving the vehicle will tell that all is well. Not if it was fitted some where elso out of site out of mind.

Mine has intake just behind the battery and also to the right side there is a slot , but mine is a Modified commodore airfilter box. I will reinstall the original land rover one once I get a snorkle
