Lightbulb Tick Tick - Uh Oh, No Boost!

Blew a manifold gasket on my 300 TDI Disco just recently reducing boost to 5lbs making for a very slow holiday trip from Melbourne to Mallacoota & back (1100K's).

Replaced the gasket but still could only manage about 9lbs of boost. I rechecked everything again and again but couldn't find anything wrong. Started to have visions of a melted turbo impeller due to high EGT's.

Pulled everything apart again and put it all back together. Found nothing wrong but still only 9lbs boost. Out of frustration I pulled off the boost line off that runs between the the turbo and the injection pump. Couldn't see anything wrong but I decided to check it out by filling it with compressed air. Three tiny holes leaking in the area where it sits behind the head. Replaced it and voila! Back to the normal 16lbs boost.

MURPHYS LAW If something can go wrong at a given time - it will.

It just amazes me how often you end up with multiple issues when fixing what seems to be a minor problem.

I guess I'll just put this down to experience.

    Robbie.

Makes sense, the injector pump wasn't seeing boost pressure so cut back on fuel, so reducing oomph. Can't see any chance of damage there (except to your temper)!
