fitting air bags
we are considering fitting air bags to our 98 Defender prior to spending 3 months on the road up through the centre and down the west coast heading off the end of March.
looked at all the info on site between coil rites and polyairs what I am seeking is info on the fitting of each type. I know that polyairs require the drilling of 4 holes in the upper spring mount do the coil rites?
what protection for the bag does each type have from the spring hold down bolts? and has anyone yet fitted the Nissan patrol size coil rites to their Defender
Looking forward to your answers

polyairs
Hi Dave
The Polyairs I put on my disco have rubber spacers about 30mm thick top and bottom of the bag..from memory this is for the 2 inch lift kit..so no direct contact with anythng other than the coils. No need to drill any holes when fitting except to mount the fill valve.

Check out truckspring.com . They sell the firestone bags which are excellent and a damn site cheaper than what you can buy locally. The polyairs are a rip off IMHO.

Airlift slot in the coil with a thin rubber insert on the bottom and a thicker one on top. No drilling etc and so far very durable.

I've polyair bags on '95 110 c/chassis for nearly a year(20,000km) now and had some concerns about spring retainer bolts but was assured by polyair guy's that it's not a problem as long as no burr's on bolt heads-they've been great so far, though only heavily loaded 10% of the time.
The drive and handling improvement loaded is well worth the cost.
There is a large hole in top rubber mount where air line enters ,been a bit of talk about this possibly catching gravel and leading to failure- can be filled with silicon or such as long as air line still has movement- I haven't sealed mine yet but do regularly check as I live on gravel road
