    Question 130 Tow Ball Weight

Hi I'm Pete and new to the site, I can see that there have been comments on weights of trailers etc. As I'm a bit dumb on this can anyone help. I want to buy a new 130 but the caravan I want is rated at 225 tow ball weight and the 130 is 150KG according to L/Rover specs althought the new Disco is 350.. The 130 is the right vehicle for me. I will be using this as a real 4WD and decided on this 130 after have several LR's, A Disco solves my problem but the thought of hosing out mud and dust is my problem there. How can I get the weight at the ball upto 225 on a 130 ??

    Hi Pete,
Can the Van be loaded in such a way that the tow ball load comes down to 150Kg?

Does using a load distributing hitch reduce the tow ball load in a legal sense?

Talk to your registration authority and/or an engineer about have the car AND tow bar re-rated.

For what it's worth my 1995 300Tdi 130 has max tow ball down load of 120Kg.

Thanks Tony Research has revealed 3 Engineering companies that will upgrade and certify to my requirement thanks for the tip that got me on the way plus I've re-looked at my requirement and a ball weight of 180 will do I was actually given bad info by a caravan dealer loading as you point out can also assist its that Land Rover thing these vehicles can and will cope but the hand book say's 150 and that's what Qld Transport will over zealously adhere to if pulled up. Thanks again for you time and help , As to the other comment made on real 4WD my reference was it is to be used as a 4wd not a bitumen drop the kids off to school my choice of model was so it could be hosed out not worry about carpets etc but thanks
