You had major, (IMO premature) wear issues with your engine, despite your extremely high (<4000km) oil change frequency.

I suspect an oil analysis would have shown high silica levels, as mentioned. If you are still running the same filter type it may be advisable.

Silica (dust) will not show up as sludge. Sludge is usually polymerised oil.

I did not have an oil analysis done...:( by the sound of it I should have.

I'll start another thread and post some pics of my dismantled engine.

IMHO the rover v8 is an engine with a near infinite life as its got liners. Providing you dont abuse it to the point where it damages the block you can just keep on rebuilding it as it wears out.

FME you should get roughly 150K km from a cam before its starting to wear and about 300K Km between rebuilds/regrinds/new crank

and you can do the rebuild for about $2k.

while theres automotive engines out there with longer projected lifes generally they arent designed to be rebuildable to the same extent as you can with engines like the rover v8 (the isuzu 3.9 is the same but its technically a truck engine which is why you dont get it as standard in a rover :) )
