Sourcing Maxi Drive bits for locker

    Hi there,

I have the opportunity to grab a Maxi Drive locker, but it is the locker only.

I have a couple of questions for the more knowledgeable around here:

    1. How would I go sourcing the other bits and pieces I need to install it?? I know that Maxi Drive's aren't being made anymore, so would I still be able to source the parts I need from somewhere?? (E.G. Vacuum, switch, whatever else, etc.) Or, would these bits need to be found secondhand too??

    2. Is it a smart move buying a Maxi Drive secondhand, due to them not being produced anymore??

Your opinions and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I assume you are talking about a complete axle disc-disc with locker installed, and vacuum cylinder/actuator?

If so, then you just need a switch, lines and light, and either a compressor or a vacuum tank. All of those can be picked up easily. Clippard minimatics make the switch, any pneumatics supplier can sell you the lines and fittings, and you can buy or make the air tank.

    edit:

And I buy lines and fittings here:

You can either run the locker on 15psi compressed air, or vacuum.

A mentioned above, MR auto will be making them again soon.

Cheers for the links and info.

Yes, it's a complete setup with Maxidrive HD axles, and I assume it has the actuator included, will find out though.

So, forgive my noobness, but if it can run on compressed air, if I was to fit an ARB locker up front, would I then be able to run both the ARB in front and the Maxidrive down back from the ARB compressor, same as a F&R ARB setup?? Would this be the best option?? I see/read about a lot of guys here running the ARB front and Maxidrive rear setup. My other option is to just run ARB's F&R.

Another question, if you guys don't mind...

I'm currently running 4.11's, would these go into the Maxidrive without issue??

Brunno , maxi Drive Lockers are Vaccum operated , unlike the ARB lockers that operate with compressed air , the actuator gets Vacume from a Resovour usually mounted under the engine bay somewhere.

and yes , your 4.11's can be utilised for the maxi drive , but you need to change ratio for both Front and rear.hopefully you have Crown wheel and pinion complete set.

My maxi drive runs on compressed air as I have no vacuum system.

Mal (Mr Maxi-Drive) told me not to go over 20psi, or you bend the actuator. ARBs need 80-130 psi. All you need to do is use a regulator in the line to the MD switch, set at 15psi.

Since the MD locker uses vacuum to lock, and vacuum to unlock, it is simply a question of swapping the lines. Converting an ARB to vacuum would be slightly more involved

I was talking to MR Automotive today - they are going to be putting Maxi Drives back into production.
