Well the other morning I found both batteries in the landy dead flat, so I stuck the charger on them for the day. When I got home that afternoon I found the charger had cutout and one of the batteries was rather hot. On closer inspection I found a small hole/crack in the hot battery, the electrolyte in one of the cells had nearly completly drained out. Something in the back of the landy must have moved and damaged the battery at some stage, worst thing is the batteries are only about 3months old
So, is it possible to save this battery by sealing the hole and refilling the empty cell with electolyte?, the plates in the batery do not look damaged, just the casing.

If any of the electrolyte drained out inside the back of your bus you should deal with that really fast.

Since it is only 3 months old, I would be trying for a replacement from where you bought it.![]()
350RRC: Don't worry, I nutralised the spilt acid with a mild alkaline solution, then flushed it all out with the garden hose.
Nice1guv: When I went an bought a replacement yesterday the bloke at Repco suggested that, but it has obvious external damage so they won't cover it.

bi carb soda solves the acid broblem with the acid leak.
i reccomend hot water and pour the first mix in , then do another,
not that i care about your car, but this is how i fix aircraft batt leaks.
i am interested to know why both batts went flat,
if they are the same age, well and good, buy two new batts.
but i suspect if they were connected in parallel, they are both 'kangaroo edward'
Bi carb in water is what I used to nutralise the acid.
Both batteries were in parallel, but the other battery seems to have escaped without damage.
I am actualy starting to think the may be an electrical gremlin in the landy as well, there seems to be an intermittent discarge from the battery, might be a small short in the system.
the first battery took damage.
its shorted a plate or leaked leaving a dry cell.
with all the ampies available being pushed into the short (or the dry plates) its cooked the battery.
the second battery (the undamaged one) will just be flat from trying to drive amps into a short circuit.
Stunned the hell out of me after watching a battery inverted to drain for 24 hours hooked up and it delivered half an amp at 12V for another 6 hours and reached a case temp of about 35 degrees in a 25 degree room doing it. on dead short it could blow a length of 30 amp fuse wire.
The batteries with the paper spaced plates apparently do even better
