    Wet footwell (from airco...?)

    Hello All

I just came back from a long weekend in Albany. Once parked in the driveway, while unpacking, I saw water dripping from the side beam of the bodywork (the beam under the doors).
After a bit of searching I found out the under my rubber floor mats and interior carpet the insulation foam was completely soaked with water. And it had been for a while since there was a bit of rust on the floor.
Now I haven't been driving through any water. What I am thinking is that it came from the air conditioning somewhere in the dash.
So before I start stripping the inside of my car; is there anybody out there who had the same problem and can guide me to the possible leak?

    Any help welcome.

Assuming you're talking about a Disco 1 or 2 then yes there are air-con drains above the left and right sides of the transmission tunnel that can block. The Disco 1 has a single pipe (from memory) on the left side. The Disco 2 has two duck bills that clocg up one on each side. A cable tie is a good tool to clear the Disco 1 tube.

In your location my first guess would most certainly be a blocked drain pipe from the A/C. Other than that there are several other possible reasons, such as small leaks at the mounting points for the front mudflaps (even if there aren't any fitted, the mounting holes are there, plugged by tiny plastic caps that deteriorate over time) or at places where several metal sheets and panels meet, e.g. underneath the lower windshield corner. In true British fashion the tolerances are such that the appearing gaps have to be filled with body filler that becomes cracky with age. As it mostly is painted it is difficult to see and the hair-fine cracks are almost invisible, but will allow a lot of water to enter. Been there, done that.
All this applies if your vehicle is a Disco I only, though .

    Cheers

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

Thanks guys. It thought it would be the aircon. specially since it is hot in Perth now I use the aircon a lot more.
By the way, it is a 1997 disco V8i.
Only the drivers side footwell is soaked.
Now if the drain from the aircon is blocked; how do I get to it to un-block it? I mean where does it suppose to drain?

As per my previous post: stick a thin cable tie or similar long thin plastic thing up it. Give it a wiggle and get soaked in dirty water all down one arm.

At least yours cools and soaks!

Mine soaks the Defender carpets because the heat exchanger thingy condenses on the outside and runs into the footwell... and even then doesnt cool things down much! And no, the pipework isnt blocked, cos that drips outside!

In the UK it was in and out of the garage several times and had several technical response questions sent back to Gaydon. they pointed out that the insulation was insufficient but couldnt / wouldnt specify a fix!

    I bet toyota air-con works
    Regards,
    Jon
