Sikaflex Pro, Rubber Flares & Radiators

    All,

I'm trying to work out how to attach some rubber flares (the ones from Clarks Rubber) to the Rangie without drilling the wings. I've tried doublesided tape but that didn't work, then I thought Sikaflex might do the job? I bought some Sikaflex Pro but think that might be the wrong stuff?

Also, need to replace the radiator on the old girl. Any suggestions on upgrades and availability around Ipswich or Wacol-ish?

    Cheers

Go to your local bearing supplier and get some anaerobic adhesive (super glue is a cheap version of this) suitable for bonding rubber and metal. The bearing shop should be able to suggest a suitable grade. From what I remember it involves careful cleaning of both surfaces and applying a primer to one surface, then adhesive to the other.

Are the Disco radiators (91-95) a better alternative to a standard Rangie one? I heard they are 4 core?

Or are there any other options or should I just get my one recored as standard?

Will this glue rubber to glass - my brother has a Triton canopy that needs to have a rubber strip glued to the rear glass door. O'Briens glass glued it with silastic - glued OK to the glass but not the rubber which came away in a couple of days.

I suggested Sikaflex but the stuff you suggested might be better.

    Thanks

A Disco radiator was a bolt in proposition for my 87 RRC. You might need to drill some holes for the upper mounting brackets on an early one.

It's ages since I bought any of the 2 part industrial adhesive, it goes off so you throw 99% of it away . It works really well when properly applied.

Loctite 401 Instant Adhesive (25ml) is quite good with rubber and plastic to glass, its a bit better than cheap superglue and keeps quite well if kept in the fridge. My bottle has gone off after 6 months as I keep it close to hand in the workshop. 2/3rds left .

Metal (and rubber) to glass repairs in small quantities are best done with rear vision mirror adhesive, commonly used in Falcons. Available at most auto parts stores. This is basically the same stuff as the industrial glue. 1 mirror glue kit will do about 20x40mm if you are careful.

Plain old super glue will easily bond rubber to glass if there isn't too much stress on it.

I've asked for a quotation from PWR and they've come back asking whether there's a difference between a 1982 radiator (which they sent me specs of) and my model (1981). I'm not aware of any but does anyone out there know?

I could measure all the bits against the specs........... but I'm lazy....!

You need a mastic sealant for glass and rubber. Sika do a really good one.
Selleys do a black one too, but its just black silicone and flogged as "windscreen sealant", but its still just black silicone.
Much like a Chev 6.5 in a Toymota, sounds great, but still a bucket of ****!!

    Cheers

    Andrew.

I would use the exact same product they use on windscreens from Sika

It sticks almost anything to car paint
