Hi this one will fool us for a while, German manufacture you'd expect metric, but no, it's a 2BA thread, go to your local fastner suppliers. Ian Ashcroft
Rover refuses to start in park or neutral. As always it happened in the middle of a car park with no tools. Anyway laying under the car looking at the box on the exhaust side is a cable/pushrod which connects to the box via a trunnion type setup. There appears to be a nut missing from the end of the threaded shaft. (Sorry for the long description). As the remaining nut is sitting about 5 mm from the bush with the rod just flapping in the breeze. The million dollar question any guess on the missing nut size and also is this cable for the neutral start switch or selector. I am guessing this is why its not starting but any hints for correct adjustments. Thanks in advance

Well to cut a long story short. Arranged a tow home as the locals would have stripped the car overnight. I hour ago arrived in mates tow truck stuck the key in ignition and bang started straight away. Drove home 50 klm did not miss a beat. As previously stated the rod is out of adjustment but made no difference to box. What does it do? I now know the neutral start is on the side of the selector box ( by my manual) so thats not the problem. My next guess it is a relay problem as I used the keyfob to lock the car when i went into the store. ( this works when it wants to) usually use key. No out of the ordinary lights illuminated when the problem occurred and the alarm light was out. Suggestions Please ???
could your immobiliser be playing up?
or the inhibitor switch on the gearbox could be playing up
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
When i wrote the original post i was pretty **issed off and had not looked at the RAVE manual. The rod is the selector shaft and this is an easy fix. It would appear i have an imobilser problem thoe i could be wrong again. I have decided to fit in a switch to by pass the ignition start circuit on the off chance it happens again. I was thinking a push switch to the starter for use if and when it happens again. Any suggestions for fitment.
I would try another relay for the starter.
On the V8i, it's located in the drivers footwell, very bottom row, it's the middle relay, (out of 3)and it is yellow. (swap with another yellow relay to see if it's the problem)
Looked on RAVE and it appears to be in the same spot for the 300 TDI, (K137)
Someone please correct me if im wrong
Good luck
Luke
