    How do I legally fit 265/75/R16's to a D2?

    Hello all,

I live in WA and want to fit some 265/75/R16 BFG KM2 mud terrains to my 2001 TD5 Disco. I want to fit them to the standard 7J alloy rims. I have got a 2" lift of Bilsteins and King Springs, I also have an ARB bull bar up front. One tyre place said that they would not sell them to me and another few said that they would...

I have been looking at the Light Vehicle National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (NCOP), ADR 23 - Passengar Tyres, ADR 42 - General safety requirements which replaced ADR 24 and Department of Transport Alternative Road Wheels. I can't really find anything useful and have probably confused myself.

I need to know it I can fit them legally, if I can fit them do I need to get the vehicle inspected, there are many vechicles in the town I live in that are running 35's (patrols etc) but I'm not sure how they have done it.

I want my insurance to still be valid. There are many Disco 2's on this forum running this size tyres, are you covered by insurance?

Thanks and any advice would be appreciated.

    Simon

In WA you need to fill out this form: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/...rm_prodveh.pdf

It is free. If the modification is acceptable you will get "approval in principle"

Wish we had that here in QLD.
I don't know about WA, but in QLD there is no way to run 32's legally on a D2, you can't even get them engineered. I try to reduce the effect if you can call it that, by only running them on trips, and running another set of wheels for day to day use, factory size. It is still risky, and personally I don't like doing it, but I really hope there is some chance of law changes in QLD. It will be a great day when they allow us to get our tyres engineered at least, even if I had to upgrade my brakes, change to 3.9:1 diff ratios, get a tru speed for speedo correction, I would do all that for my car to be legal. After doing all those modifications, I can't see why the vehicle can't be legal...maybe someone on here can convince me otherwise.

If and when QLD adopt the NCOP, you will be able to do those sort of mods
