Post Correcting my swivel pin preload stopped my hub oil seal leaks !

Was feeling daunted by the prospect of replacing my hub oil seals as they (one particular) would leak fairly well, and leave drops on the inside of the tyre after parking the car for not long.

So its been great to see that after correcting the pre-load on the hub swivel pins it has pretty much stopped it

They were down as low as 2kgs !

So im guessing this could likely also be why the front axle was so full of water on top of the diff oil when i changed it, that it came gushing out the top filler plug when i opened it !

That will do it! The seals will probably still need replacing sooner rather than later because they've been allowing the "outside in". It's really not that much of an ordeal though.

it wouldnt seem that way if you can do the method ive read about where you just take the whole hub off without dis-assembly.

That is how I did mine. I removed the entire swivel assembly from the end of the axle housing and replaced the seal that way. I did my swivel preloads at the same time and it has steered well and been leak free for over 12 months now. My preloads were so low as to be unmeasurable...

Am I missing something here? Isn't it supposed to be the other way round?

Anyone tried the lazy seals. Split to allow changing without removing anything. The mob in Vic sells them. I thought if the join was at the top they may be OK?
