You will not go a rover used motor but will go a holden used motor and then pay heaps to get it all modified to go in.
Seems as if you have made up your mind.
Why not pull your current heads and see exactly what you have done or have not done with your current engine - they are tough and most likely you have just blown a head gasket and maybe warped a head a bit - a few days work and a head gasket set and other bits is less than $150 and some of your time. You want a to get a Rover that will go straight in but are prepared to use a different engine that will not go straight in. To put in a different type of engine is going to take a hell of a lot longer, a lot more hassle, and then you have to get the lot engineered.
What is wrong with this
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY MOTOR V8 3.9 - eBay V8 Engines, Engines, Components, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 25-Feb-10 13:54:30 AEDST)
or this
Part Specials - Triumph Rover Spares South Australia
or this
3.9V8 long motor - Used Parts - Triumph Rover Spares South Australia
The rover engines are around for about the same pricing as you have found holden engines.
Garry
The only reason the 3.5's slip liner's is because of boiling,it's all BS anyway because any engine that is boiled is stuffed. Pat
At last someone that can see my point my motor is more than likely stuffed and i am possibly up for 5000
The motors that garrycol are good ideas but apart from the fact there both in other states its not really what looking at
what happens if i do have a prob with either of them engines
I drive it QLD or SA to get it fixed Im in Albury a long way from them
Triumph Rover Spares South Australia did have a new short motor but that was 3250 and its sold if my heads were ok i may have just bought that problem solved properly
1 pair brand new big valve heads, high flow, latest spec heads. $1450 same place
Thats why i dont want to pay 5000 for a reco new is almost the same price im pretty sure i could get new head castings with warrenty for 2000 from somewhere just a guess
Seriously, just wreck your truck for parts and buy another one!
Already thought of that
i will be buying something like this if its not worth fixing
1996 Land Rover Discovery V8I 4X4 Green 4sp A Wagon - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 04-Mar-10 14:46:10 AEDST)
And keep this one for spares
Don't forget that the Holden boat anchor is 100kgs+ heavier than the all alloy Rover, so you will have to modify suspension and brakes to pass engineering ticket, Regards Frank.
As i said im just exploring options
And that doesn't look like a bad option
