    Discovery engine atlternative

Did some ringing round today for an engine

i rang the first place he said 5500-6000 for a reco of my motor

Rang about 20 more places with not much luck most didnt have or couldnt do it for some reason
couple of places had reco short motors for 2500-3500 one place wanted 1200 each for reco heads

So i might consider putting another type of engine in there just in case it happens again in the near future i dont want to throw money away

What options are available i checked marks4x4 and they cost a lot of money its like 3000 for the kit to fit a Holden efi motor

But its a hell of a lot cheaper to fit an old 327 or 350 but that brings up other problems like to much power where to mount all the stuff that needs to be there like power steering pump ac
What to do about the trans cause theirs no engine anymore the list goes on

The only bonus i can think of is it would have to be on gas to be legal

So im looking for suggestions and options

What engine have you got and what is wrong with it?
Did it have enough power or do you want more?
Give us some more info to get a better idea on what to suggest.
    Cheers Eric

    3.5

    Its a 3.5 petrol V8 in a 93 Discovery

I was more than happy with power but it got pretty hot recently and now runs real bad weeps from the head gasket i think thats what caused the overheating but it isnt in a good way

My intention is to hang onto this one for a while its in really good condition and i don't think i could buy one another for what it would cost to fix this one

Its just they cost so much to fix when they break

You tried T.R.Spares New, Reconditioned & Second Hand Spare Parts ?

I wouldn't call an engine conversion cheap or easy, and you're then stuck with a non standard vehicle that may be hard to insure, sell later, and will have an old driveline subjected to more power than it was designed to cope with.

I would have thought the actual engine conversion would have been the easy bit.
Getting all the electronic whiz-bangery going would be the real nightmare.

Mate of mine is going thru the same process. Guess what happens when a TD5 overheats, and "we will see how it goes"?

His Minister of Domestic & Financial Affairs has said "Any more than $1,000 and you can forget it..."

Then I'd suggest an engine conversion is not for you, also whining about $$ is a good indication, that a conversion would be a bad idea

Few people on this board wreck rovers, PM andrewe, sclarke are a few that usually have an engine or 3
