    Angry D2 Hand Brake Problem

    Hi All,

hoping some one can supply me with some information.

I pulled up in the drive this afternoon to open the gate and the hand break came right on; it kept coming, when it came on it felt like the leaver lifted up a bit. (May have just been the cable)

    1. What is involved in removing the console to see if the plate that holds the hand break down has come loose (I looked on the RAVE Cd did not tell you much).
    2. What is involved in changing the hand break cable if that is broken?

    Cheers and Thanks

    Hi Richard,

Park brake cables are easy in the Disco, NOT in the Defender.

Give me a call tomorrow, I'll have a chat with you about it.

Mobile is best, but try landline if no answer. VERY busy tomorrow.

I'm assuming that D1 and D2 are basically the same here.

You may be able to do it without removing the entire console although it is a little fiddly.

You can get in there by removing the panel for your window switches.

If you pull back the leather boot around the level you will expose a clevis pin which holds the cable to the lever. Getting this undone is the easy but. Get ready to swear when you refit as you will probably drop it a few times.

Attached is a pic of the lever.

AFAIR the cable attaches to a bracket under the car with reasonably good access and you feed the cable up through the floor.
