propshaft uj's or diff pinion bearing on the way out....

could also be a tcase bearing but youd also have a good leak from the tcase output seal.

Transfer case in neutral, jack up a front wheel, climb under front tailshaft with a pry bar/large screwdriver and rotate t/shaft and check for any movement in uni-joints with pry bar and listen for any noises while rotating, make sure you chock (front and behind) the rear wheels, might pay to check diff oil level while you're there, Regards Frank.

    cheers tank

    i'll give it ago.

I've also noticed there is a gear selector issue, which may be related,
its not holding in "park" and there's a ticking noise when you roll the car, when in drive or park or what ever gear.

not holding in park is the pawl in the auto side of business not playing the game.

ticking when rolling is going to be Uj (check as per tank's suggestion) or diff tooth related.

recheck for the noise with the tcase in nuetral and pray for uj's to be shot.

ok, replaced both front and rear diff oils, and road tested after each
    no go.

the sway bar bushes are cracked, and i've noticed that when you turn/roll
the car, the noise is significantly greater on one side to the other,

    - my theory is the sway bar is vibrating on the chassis ?
    - the uni joints have also been checked and are fine
    - the noise is still there when you stick the car in neutral whilst driving ?

Very likely a wheel bearing, if it changes when cornering etc.
