Thread: Transfer case prices

When over in West Oz about 18 months ago mine played up .Went to Land Rover they quoted $5500 plus GST , I'm still running from that price.I finally got a second hand one for $1200 and Installed it.Another quoted price from an independent over there was $2500. But that was in WA and things appear to be a bit more expensive.

If you can do it yourself there are recon kits on ebay for about $330 + postage. Thats presuming your gears are all ok.

Sounds reasonable if new bearings, seals etc are done, labour cost is the big item. Make sure ratio is the same as yours.....brian

Some big lots of money being paid over there for second hand ones.

Seen them for between NZD550-850 here in NZ. I think I paid around NZD750 for a second hand 1.41:1 ratio T/C around a year ago and that included getting the gear cross-drilled and a 3 month warrantee. I installed it myself.

$1600 outright is a good price for a full reco, I sold a very low km used one for $750 recently, (outright, as the one that came out has had metal all through it, may be able to use some bits from it but not holding my breath.)

When you factor in the price of new high range gears and selector sleeves,(These are pretty high wear items, especially from Defenders with the usual worn axles splines etc causing gear shunt during shifting) all bearings and seals etc plus build labour time then you can see how they can easily get up around 2K.

I'm actually shopping in the UK for parts

I was quoted the same price for a second hand low k one here in Aus so ill buy from the UK rather than buy here

They just don't get it i buy all my parts online as live in the country so it makes no difference to me who's web page i look at or what part of the world they are in if its good and its cheaper ill go UK any day

ITS 2010 not 1974 its a whole new world for a lot of these suppliers here and they will be lost by the side of the road guaranteed

Most suppliers here don't even answer there emails
