    Cheap beach rod

I ordered an el cheapo Ebay rod today, mainly to use as a second beach rod for my spare 950 Penn.
Already use a 14ft Galdiator Crocodile as a favorite, this second rod is to leave set whilst using the Crocodile.
Guess if its a piece of junk I can make a sand flag out of it

Is that fold down runner made that way to make it more compact for transport and storage or is it there for some other reason?

I remember buying the kids some el cheepo fishing gear when they were young. I still remember the huge Jewie they hooked up on the wharf at Weipa (in the days when fishing on the jetty was allowed). I took the rod, as it was way too big for them. Firstly the rod snapped, so I tried to give the fish line by free spooling the reel, but this simply jammed up after a short time.

The kids got good gear after that.

Johnno, havent got it yet,its on the way.
The folding eye is for packing it up for transport, apparently its larger than the usual first eye.
Erich,I would prefer to buy known brands, all my fishing gear is.I have a spare 950 Penn reel that I cant cast with any distance on an 11 foot rod(back injury).I couldnt justify $150 upwards for a rod that will be used as a set line, the Croocodile is my favorite.I hope the quality is OK,I realise you only get what you pay for.

I've got some Sambo gear, a friend who fishes "big", (he's in Lismore and goes out the bar in his 7mtr Cat) uses them too.

Plenty of heavy fish caught no problems.

    They seem well built.

On the other hand, had 2 brand new
Penn rods snap. The first one on a barely legal whiting :-(

I've been hunting for a new rod for my dad for a similar reason. He's got a bung wrist and struggles with his rod but can still get a reasonable distance on my 14' ozflex.

Will be good to see how this one performs. Any idea on weight?

    Hi Stuee
Havent recieved it yet, says shipping weight is 3kg.
They do have carbon rods slightly dearer and not quite as long if you are chasing a lighter type.
Worth looking at the link Toombie put up.
