    Fishing WA south coast

    Hi all,

Just come back from a week down at Denmark WA. I tried to fish most mornings and nights. The herring were very obliging but not much else was happening...

Some say, you need large tackle to catch big fish.
Some say, you need a big boat to go and chase them.

All I know, is that you can catch a large, Yellow Tail King fish with a Land Rover Discovery and a snatch strap.

These guys were very, very grateful to have been retrieved from the ocean... I didn't have a before shot but the guys had to duck dive to fit my shackles to the front of their car. I used two snatch straps together to stop me getting my feet wet...

I was watching these guys backing their trailer into the water and I thought that they were a bit keen getting their wheels into the drink. About twenty minutes later they tried to drive out and span their wheels. A sensible person would have dropped the trailer, tire pressures and tried to get their car out. These guys thought more right foot would do the trick.

When they were on their diffs, front and back, with the waves washing into their car above the door sills they called out to me and asked if I had a 4x4. The tide was coming in and very quickly what was mildly amusing to me was becoming rather urgent.

One snatch and I pulled the car and trailer out of their hole and part of their catch was transferred to me. (I wasn't expecting anything but gratfully acepted their gift.)

Below is the "Boat Harbor" Denmark WA.

Here I saw some whales and a seal having a play. The fishing here was a bit of a waste of time with the seal scaring off the fish. But it was a far better day than being at work.

I also came across this close to the Wilson Inlet ocean river mouth:

He declined an other to be retrieved by a Land Rover, having called RAC for recovery. Several others had tried to pull him out to no effect.

    Cheers
    Ron

Curious how the Pootrol ended up where it did.... considering it's a straightforward two wheel track.....??

The Pootrol was on a night 4x4 run up that track and was returning to town. Behind me is the main sealed road with the track forming a Tee intersection. In the dark he cut the left hand corner and his front left wheel fell into the culvert. In trying to back out his rear left hand wheel also fell off the track...

The area off the left hand side is flooded swamp land and a good 18" below the track level. I didn't ask him how good is door seals were.
