Have been wanting to get up to Derby to go Barra fishing with my great mate DERBY DAN!!!!
It looks like he is about to become Geraldton Dan,not only that,a good mate from town is also becoming Geraldton Ken.Less than 7 hours drive now with a boat in tow
No Barra in Geraldton,2 fishing mates

Andy Derby is a great place your mate is very lucky living up there he must be moving down for work would be my guess,No way in the world I would give up that part of the world to move to Gero for any other reason.
Perfect time to be up in the Kimberley this time of year cool nights and 30 deg + days just lovely.

He doesnt want to leave, can no longer afford to live there, rent is almost $400 a week now,he used to pay $100 a week for the same house.
He has 2 young kids and just cant make ends meet.
He isnt looking forward to leaving the Kimberlies.
Dan spent some time here working on the Shire as a grader driver, after a few years he returned to Derby.Im guessing into the future he will return "HOME" again.

    Great work Pilbara130!

How much fun are they to catch. It's been a while since I had the pleasure, but always remain a highlight in my fishing memory banks.

Where did you fish for them? I was in the Kimberley about 5 years ago and had an absolute ball fishing the countless areas available. Did you have a tinny or land based?

    Cheers.

Caught a few last year on my trip up The Cape. Great fighters and love to jump - also are top tucker as well.

Caught all of them either trolling in a small tinny close to the fallen timber near the bank or throwing bibbed lures at the sticks from then tinny

Pretty hard to beat the feeling of catching your first Barra

Well done mate - a good fish

Very honourable of you to release them all - better than me because I would have eaten one of them

    Hey DeeJay,

make sure you visit Cape Leveque on your travels.

Admittedly we had a tinny, but we hooked (not necessarily landed) evrything from reefies to sailfish, all within sight of our campsite!

That place accounted for about $200 worth of my lures for the 3 day stay we had there.

Super fun though, and worth every cent!
