Just returned from 3 days of fishing up at Eildon. Two of us went out the 1st day and my fishing buddy got a 6 pnd Brown trout, the fish finder was showing huge arches from 30 foot plus right down to 70. Caught a heap of redfin, nothing huge but their good fun when they are schooled up. All in all a good trip with quite a lot of trout being taken by other anglers mostly on leadline, although I did manage to bag a 2pnd brown on a small rapala. Lots of really big fish active but down really deep.
Was thinking about heading out eildon way for a weekend camping/fishing trip with some mates later this month. Dont have a boat so where stuck on the shore, think it's still worth going? Just dont want to head out there and catch nothing.
Some excellent land based spots to fish from, only problem is that the water level has come up which makes access to the water little tricky, especially around the jew's creek camping areas. My choice would be venturing into Big river arm as there's some nice camping to be had near the water, its a little further but you dont get the tossers camping there like you do at Jews. You could also try the pines but its a fairly long drive and you will need to put up with motor bikes fanging around, but on the upside there's some reasonable 4wding if the fish aren't biting. Taylors bay has good water access but you need to book a spot online (same with Jews creek). It really depends on how long you plan on going for and how prepared you are to get into the rough spots.
Take heaps of tassie devils and some nice big scrubbies.
