Having a 4.2 meter boat I was always finding myself struggling to store gear and keep the floor clear of stuff, tackle boxes, bait, etc so I built a transom storage box which houses my fuel and oil tanks, plus batteries as well as an Esky and baitbox.
I was originally going to use 9mm Marine ply but it was going to be way to heavy so I used 5mm which I glued and screwed, I also added a large vent at the rear to vent the petrol tanks. To make the esky I used polystyrene foam then lined it with 3mm plastic sheet, also fitted a tap to let the ice drain out.
The whole project costed approx $150.

Looks the goods. I would be a bit wary of those plastic rod holders. I had some on my lst boat and within a very short period of time they got very brittle, cracked and fell apart.
I would not be putting a good rod in them fishing for anything big while trolling as the strain on them if you get a strike will see them give up the ghost pretty easily.

Nice job Aussie,
Inwant to do a similar thing with my 3.9m. I've already placed a false floor between the front bench seat and the bow section, makes it nice and comfy to cast from. The only "bad" I did was to cover it with cheap carpet which has since fallen apart on me.
I was thinking of extending that rearward again to hold esky, gear and a tank.
Hmm I had planned on putting my steel rod holders in them to use for trolling. I think I'll keep my current method of using rod holders on the gunnels. A mate has some ripper stainless ones on his boat but their 80 bucks each, ouch. As for carpet I bought mine from mitre10, was the most expensive part of the job.
