Could not agree more. I went to Windermere Dam a few years ago and when the others I was fishing with stopped casting to a likely spot I kept putting casts in and I was the one getting the fish. All on the same green lure I bought for $1 from one of those disposal bins from the tackle shop.

They all laughed when I got it stuck on a submerged tree branch but I took the boat over and could see it about 2.5 metres down stuck on a branch and decided it was too good a lure to leave there so off with the clothes and over I went. That water was bloodly cold but I got the branch it was stuck on and broke it off and surfaced to find another six lures stuck on the same branch.

Caught six more fish that day on that same lure and the others got zip.

When you find what they like, stick to it. By the way the next day they would not even look at that lure. A dark brown lure was all they wanted and the weather and water temp was exactly the same.
