    Good rivers to fish

Tongoriro, Waihou, Rangitaiki and the Whirinaki in the North Island as well as the lakes around Rotorua

Any of the west coast streams on the South Island produce big trout. Just stop when you cross a bridge, stop and grab the rod and walk upstream

I heard if you joined club like southern fly fishers they will teach you. They are in Lilydale I think, not far for you Chops? Maybe Chris aka Rangieman would do it with you?

hehe,, I'll have a yarn with him, maybe he will .
No doubt he'll want to come away camping anyway, and we always go near rivers. Wardy can fly fish I think, so even if I can just get some basics to start with,, don't want to overburden him with me learning when we head off somewhere for a nice relaxing weekend

Chops I was talking to him the other night and the subject was brought up that he would like to learn.
I can also see Sandy sitting there during the cold nights tying flys for you guys.
The D4 you are getting , you could accessorize it with a fly tying vice , some storage bins for tinsel and fur.

Haha,, there may be enough fur and stuff around without me taking more. Between cats, dogs and women, I'm sure I'll get enough material.

Pube nymphs don't have the trout catching attraction, but many a Kelpie or Road kill has donated some fur or feather for flies.

People have this idea fly fishing is some kind of mystery. Once you master the 10 o'clock 2 o'clock cast it's easy.
