    marine growth

    Aluminium runabout has been in water for 4 weeks. What is the easiest way of removing marine growth (and keeping it off)? Will a guerney do the job?

    I'm assuming no anti foul
    Eitherway
    Pull boat onto trailer park somewhere in the sun
    In a location that can get smelly
    Leave it in sun a few days for growth to die off then hit withnpressure washer and a brush

    It's gonna smell good once your done!!!!

    Even straight out of the water, a pressure washer will take it off. If you are going to leave it in the water for extended periods, give it an antifoul, but use one suitable for aluminium.

    Hi,
    Bleach will kill mould very quickly, may do similar to to marine growth. Maybe try a small patch first?

    thanks guys. It is out of the water and as soon as it had dried I can brush the growth off with my hand. It is what is left attached to the hull I need to remove. Might try some antifoul or else pull it out of water each fortnight and give a pressure wash

    I had a yacht which I would pull out of the water every 2yrs, give it a 'water blast' and a quick coat of antifoul, and back in she would go. The best thing to keep growth off, is use...it's the sitting around not moving, which encourages most growth.

    The best way is to spray some bleach on the growth whilst it is still a bit wet the pressure blast it off.
    If you intend to leave the boat in the water then anti fouling paint is the way to go, This will have to be repainted each year.
    Back before we became eco conscious we would run a tarp under the boat and enclose the hull and then pour bleach/swimming pool chlorine between the hull and the tarp and leave it there for a few hours.
    Then we would remove the tarp and take the boat out for a few high speed runs in the chop to polish the hull
    This practice is now frowned upon because of the obvious pollution caused by the bleach/chlorine that is dumped in the sea.
