    surf fishing

    so who in melbourne likes to go out surf fishing, since most other seasons are closed the ocean is the only place!

    mate if you want to go for a surf fish just give me a call,being from noosa thats most of the fishing i used to do besides my little boat i sold down here,will be buying another boat later in the year also,carnt get into the fresh water thing not enough action compared to salt

    Beach fishing is my favorite,always has and always will.Cruise the beach setup and enjoy.
    Unfortunately for me I can no longer cast correctly since a major back injury.Im over the injury wich pleases me no end.I get a "feeling" in my back when casting that isnt good,and as a result just cant put any power into it.
    What do I do put up with it or look into a longer rod,ie 14ft???? Must admit I can comfortably cast much further with a 10ft.Do I get a tough 10footer instead????
    Would love to hear from others with back issues.

    i use a 13ft 6 rod & 6" wooden alvey most of the time in the surf.also have a 10ft 6 rod that i use mainly in estuaries & other areas,with a 5" alvey.

    find if i do a lot of fishing,say 5 to 6 hours,the 10 footer is a lot less tiring.

    i reckon if i had a back injury the 10 footer would be the go.you may not be able to cast quite as far, but could probably cast more accurately& at the end of the day will be less sore.

    you could probably fish for longer with the 10 footer

    just my 2 c worth

    Like all sports the people that are good at them make it look easy. Fishing is the same and it looks easy when you see a great caster punch their bait over the breakers with relative ease. Technique is the most important part of a cast NOT THE EFFORT PUT INTO IT. It is also important to get the right combo of rod, reel and line to assist you. Like cars there is plenty of choice but not all are created equal. Some of the light graphite rods out there are brilliant and weigh a third (120gm 12 Foot) of the weight of their older but more durable glass decendants. Graphit rods will also cast lighter weights further and with much less effort but will give you the same stopping power of a traditional 7 wrapp rod like the Snyder Gass MT7144.
    Have a good look around for the right rod for your reel. Take your reel to a good tackle store and explain your problem. If the sales people are worth their salt they will put you onto a balanced outfit that will see you casting as far as anyone with relative ease and very low stree on your back.
